Color Guard & Speakers at Blount Island

Color Guard, Speakers & Other Uniformed Participation

The Department of Defense follows specific guidelines, based on federal law, to determine which events qualify for our support. The U.S. Marine Corps is delighted to engage with events open to the public. However, we must ensure that our participation is inclusive and impartial, and not seen as endorsing any particular individual, group, business, religion, ideology, commercial venture or political entity.

To request our support, you must be authorized to represent your organization and submit your request as an individual. Government regulations do not permit requests from government employees, including military service members.

Each request is uniquely considered and reviewed for eligibility. The type of support you need will dictate the requirements for your submission.

Guest Speakers

Every Marine has a unique story to share, and the Marine Corps is proud to support them in inspiring communities nationwide–from intimate gatherings in small towns to major conventions in bustling cities. To request a guest speaker, please submit a DD Form 2536 at least 30 days in advance. We look forward to the possibility of connecting with your event.

Color Guard

Enhance the solemnity and prestige of your military-related activity, parade or civic event with a traditional ceremonial color guard. This time-honored formation pays respect to our nation and honors those who have served.

To request a color guard, please submit a DD Form 2536 to the Communication Strategy and Operations (COMMSTRAT) office. Once received, your request will be reviewed to ensure it meets Department of Defense criteria. Eligible requests will then be forwarded to the headquarters company for availability and assignment. We look forward to the possibility of contributing to the dignity and significance of your event.

Uniformed Participation

Marines proudly uphold the integrity of their uniform and are mindful of its representation. As such, they may not wear it when engaging in political activities, private employment, or commercial interests, nor during unofficial public speeches where Marine Corps endorsement could be implied.

Marines are also careful not to use their government positions, titles, or authority in a way that might suggest official endorsement of personal activities or non-federal entities. While there are specific instances where endorsement of organizations like military relief societies is permitted, referring to Marines by their rank and branch is simply a form of respectful address and does not imply official support.

To request the presence of uniformed Marines at your event, please complete and submit a DD Form 2536. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in maintaining the esteemed reputation of the Marine Corps.
