A U.S. Navy Sailor observes autonomous navigation with Rob Branan, an electrical engineer with Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center Software Support Activity and Navy veteran, aboard an Improved Navy Lighterage System during a demonstration May 27, 2026, in the Atlantic Ocean near Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Branan previously served as an aviation electrician’s mate before working in simulation and automation systems. The demonstration, conducted during Maritime Prepositioning Force Exercise 26, showcased autonomous littoral mobility operations as part of modernization efforts.
