Tip of the Spear Operations
The Blount Island Command operations department drives the full spectrum of maritime prepositioning, keeping the Marine Corps always prepared, always forward, always ready. Four branches work in concert:
-
Current Operations Branch – Directs daily movements, tracks asset status, and ensures coordination across global sites.
-
Plans & Future Operations Branch – Shapes long-range requirements and integrates new concepts to sustain Marine Corps Force Design priorities.
-
Port Operations Branch – Manages vessel arrivals, cargo loading and offloading, and the safe, efficient use of Jacksonville’s strategic seaport.
-
Shipboard Branch – Sustains afloat readiness in coordination with Military Sealift Command, ensuring ships deliver combat power worldwide. Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadrons (MPSRON) 2 and 3 maintain persistent presence and rapid response capability in contested and logistically complex environments. Positioned across key theaters, they deliver combat-ready materiel by sea to sustain operations without long supply chains.
Together, these branches synchronize planning, deployment, assembly and reconstitution of assets. Their work powers crisis response, multinational and joint exercises, and deterrence operations—asserting Blount Island Command’s role in projecting strength through rapid response, efficiency, allied integration and support to distributed operations.
